Don’t put five years in sentence two
Thursday cannot carry 2019 through last week. The montage will get the defense. Pickup will not.
12 September 2026
Sentence one is Thursday. Sentence two is 2019 through last week, every time they left a bag on the floor. They stop hearing Thursday. They start defending a decade.
Tonight’s envelope can hold one dated example, maybe. It cannot hold a documentary. If the pattern is the real topic, put that title on the conversation and do not pretend this is pickup.
You keep the montage because you do not trust one night to matter. Fair fear. The montage still fails. They will call it scorekeeping, and they will not be entirely wrong, and Thursday will still be uncovered.
Practice stopping after the ask plus one beat. When your mouth reaches for 2019, that is the push to rehearse. The history can have its own night. It does not get to ride in sentence two.
Rehearse stopping after Thursday
Questions about this
When do I bring up the pattern?
After tonight’s ask is decided, or in a conversation that is explicitly about the pattern. Sentence two of Thursday pickup is the wrong envelope.
What if the pattern is the whole point?
Then say you want to talk about the pattern, and do not pretend this is about Thursday. Mixing them is how both fail.
Is one extra example okay?
One dated example can support the ask. A montage of 2019 through last Tuesday is a documentary. They will defend the montage and forget Thursday.
What if they say I am keeping score?
If sentence two was a highlight reel, they have a point. Return to the current ask. Scorekeeping is a different night, with that title on it.
