Practice vs videos vs chatting with an AI

A video names the loop. A chatbot drafts the text. Tonight still requires answering after they object.

If you are talking tonight, a twenty-minute video will not install the answer in your mouth. If you are sending a text, a chatbot draft might be enough. Those are different jobs. People mix them up because both feel like preparing.

A video is good when you do not have the pattern yet. Stonewalling, repair, I-statements: useful names. You leave knowing what the loop is called. You do not leave having said “I need Thursday” after they have already sighed. If the gap is knowledge, watch something. It is cheaper than an app.

Chat is good for a first draft, especially at 10pm. “Help me ask for a night off without sounding furious.” You may get a better sentence than you would have written. Then you still have to say it to someone who does not cooperate with the draft. Chat does not sigh. It does not go quiet. It does not say “so I am the problem.” A clean paragraph can still die at the table.

Rehearsal is for the table. You already know the ask. You know how they push (a joke, a freeze, a counter). You keep losing that exchange. Then you need to speak, get the objection, and answer again, not collect another explanation.

Before You Say It is that rehearsal. Typed is fine if you will not use a mic. It will not help if you are still deciding whether you are allowed to want the thing; that is a notebook hour. It will not help if you are unsafe. That needs real-world help, not wording.

You can watch a clip and still rehearse. The waste is stopping at the draft and calling yourself ready.

Questions about this

When is a video the right tool?

When you do not have a name for the loop yet. After you can describe the pattern, another video is usually stalling.

When is a chatbot draft useful?

For a text you will send, or a first sentence you cannot find at 10pm. It is not useful as a substitute for answering a person who objects.

Do I need a microphone?

Spoken is closer to tonight. Typed still counts if you will not record. The product accepts both. Head-only rehearsal does not, because that version always goes well.

Can I watch a clip and then rehearse?

Yes. The waste is stopping at the clip and calling yourself ready.
