When they go quiet after the ask

Quiet is not yes. Filling it with never mind is how you lose Thursday anyway.

12 September 2026

You ask. They go quiet. You hate the quiet, so you shrink the ask, or you say never mind, or you stack reasons. They never answered. You still lost Thursday.

Quiet is not yes. It is also not a verdict until they speak. Wait longer than you want. Then ask “what is happening?” not “forget it.” If you need a yes or no tonight, say that. Do not fill the hole with a smaller request they can accept without meaning it.

If you are the quiet one because you are thinking, say you are thinking. Otherwise they will do this page to you: they will panic and cancel the thing you were about to agree to.

Walking out only works with a return time. No time turns quiet into a shutdown. Rehearse sitting in the gap without selling yourself down.

Rehearse waiting in the gap without saying never mind.

Questions about this

How long do I wait?

Longer than is comfortable, shorter than a disappearance. If you need a number, try one full breath after you would normally jump in. Then ask “what is happening?” not “never mind.”

What if quiet means no?

Quiet is not yes. It is also not a verdict until they say one. “I need a yes or no on Thursday” is fair. Filling the quiet with a smaller ask is how you lose Thursday.

What if I go quiet because I am thinking?

Say so. “I am thinking, not done.” Otherwise they will do to you what this page is about.

Should I leave the room?

Only if you say when you will be back. Walking out without a time turns quiet into a shutdown.
